![]() ![]() The other is an advanced volume control that allows you to set the volume differently for each app. One is the ability to amplify quiet audio, which sometimes helps me with podcasts that were recorded too quietly. There are two features that I find particularly noteworthy about Boom 3D. A nice feature that macOS lacks up to now: the ability to set the volume for each app differently. With the “Ambience” preset and the “Film” equalizer setting, I have found a nice preset for films that creates a pleasant sound for both films and computer games. I could imagine that there is minimal reverb being used here that does not fit in there. Of course you have to see which preset you choose, because in the 3D surround preset conversations sometimes seem as if they were in a room, although in the film they take place in nature. Choice of preset and EQ setting important for the end result For Apple devices such as MacBook Pro and AirPods, there are already optimized presets that can be used - very practical in everyday life. The voices, on the other hand, became clearer and easier to understand. My daughter called it "That doesn't sound so boring anymore!" The deep ship noises in the background were barely audible without Boom 3D and came out clearer with the app switched on - but remained pleasantly in the background. In both cases, the sound improved significantly. As an output device, I selected the Apple AirPods Max and the internal speakers of my MacBook Pro M1Max. I did a test with an episode of Star Trek that I watched via Netflix in the Firefox Browser looked at. ![]() And this is exactly not only helpful when listening to music on the MacBook, but also increases the enjoyment when watching films on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or other sources. This means that audio from apps is also running - if you so wish - it is "treated" and improved by Boom 3D. More fun with movies with Boom 3Dīoom 3D is completely integrated into the system as an app. The equalizer in Boom 3D knows some presets, but you can also fine-tune it yourself. When I read about Boom 3D years ago, I initially thought that the app was just a nice collection of equalizer presets that make the sound a bit voluminous by increasing the bass and mids. Nevertheless, some services are already integrated - unfortunately I only miss Apple Music. Boom 3D's iPhone app can also improve the sound on the iPhone, just like the Mac app, but due to the limitations of the operating system, it cannot work as globally as on the Mac. And since I only use Apple Music on the iPhone and iPad, I'm only referring to Boom 3D on the Mac in this article. An adjustment of the sound through Boom 3D in Apple Music is currently not possible due to the restrictions of iOS and iPadOS. You can use it to edit the sound of Spotify or Tidal, among other things, but there is no global integration that is possible under macOS. Sir Apfelot recommendation: Clean up your Mac hard drive with CleanMyMac Boom 3D integration into the system in iOS and iPadOS is not so perfectly possibleįirst of all: Boom 3D is not only available for the Mac, but also for iPad, iPhone and Android devices ( Link). ![]()
